7 Media Web Solutions, LLC launches a new free and open source student information system (SIS) that promises to deliver a high return on investment.
7 Media Web Solutions, LLC has launched their very first educational product into the world entitled eduTrac. eduTrac is a student information system (SIS) which allows educational institutions to manage faculty, staff, students, courses, course registrations, and more. Also, eduTrac is free, open source, can be installed on any Linux powered server, and can be accessed and viewed on a range of devices including smartphones and tablets.
eduTrac was built to be scalable as well as intuitive for users of any level. Though the system shares some similarities with other SIS’s out there, it is also unique in some ways as well. One of its unique features is the SQL Interface. The SQL Interface allows direct interaction with the relational database to allow a user to run advanced ad-hoc reports using SQL queries. In developing eduTrac, 7 Media was determined to make the retrieval of data just as easy as entering data.
Another unique feature of eduTrac is that it is easily extendable. eduTrac comes with a RESTful API as well as a plugin API. These features make it easy to integrate eduTrac with other third party systems and vice versa. Moreover, with its plugin API, one can override functions and/or write plugins to extend the system’s functionality.
Even though this is the first release, version 1.0.0 stable is the first of four stages. The remaining stages will incorporate a parent portal, human resources, and student accounts. 7 Media’s time frame is to have the remaining three stages completed by the end of Q2 2014.
If you would like more information or if you are interested in downloading eduTrac, check out 7 Media’s website. Also 7 Media offers a variety of online training courses, as well as other online materials to help familiarize users with the new system.
